Time for a War on Evil

Reasonable men may argue forever about the existence of God and the existence of satan. No reasonable man will argue about the existence of evil. We can not eliminate it, nor legislate it out of existence. Our only solution is to overpower it. If yesterday's slaughter of innocents is not convincing evidence of evil's existence what would it take?

I do not understand why this puke killed innocent men, women, and children, but am confident that I know why he chose that particular location. He was familiar with it. He knew he could get inside unchallenged. He knew it was filled with helpless, unarmed victims. Like all cowards, he chose the location and victims based on their vulnerability. I have never known a bully or coward who sought out the strongest victim.

December 14, 2012 is a day that will change America forever. Something needs to change, and the course of this change will determine if we continue to exist as a free people capable and permitted to defend ourselves, or surrender ourselves to the state as its impotent, submissive, dependent subjects. There will be a renewed cry for more gun control, with no evidence that previous rounds of more gun control have been effective at anything except disarming law-abiding people. Semi-automatic handguns will surely be targeted for control or confiscation, joining "assault weapons" as the demons destroying society. Rational, logical thought will be completely displaced by hysterical reactionism, as usual.

Some will call for armed police officers in every school. This is a "Sounds good, feels good" solution that will have minimal effect. For the first few seconds of any assault, the perpetrator is the only one who knows what is going on. Everyone else will be in "What was that?" mode. His first act will be to take out the armed officer, leaving the unarmed victims as vulnerable as ever, and the perpetrator with an additional weapon. Unless we are prepared to place multiple officers in every classroom(obama and the unions would love this solution!) placing officers in schools would be a complete waste.

I strongly suggest that we allow and encourage teachers, administrators, and other staff who are qualified to get the training and weapons necessary to protect themselves and the children in the school environment. The training could be done through local law enforcement at minimal cost, and their weapons provided as school supplies. We do NOT need to arm every teacher. The knowledge that some of them(never revealing which ones) are armed would discourage the cowards from attacking our schools, and they would seek out softer targets. Some will argue that an armed teacher might be so aggravated by a disruptive student that she would snap and shoot him. I concede that this is a possibility, but contend that knowing the teacher may be armed might cause students to be less disruptive. It might even cure ADHD without medication.

What we have done in the past in response to school shootings has been a complete failure. We need to try a new approach, and I suggest a study of Israel's policy post-Munich, and Thailand's change in policy a few years back would be a great guide to our own solution.

We will never be rid of evil, but we must NEVER let evil prevail.

The Governor of Vermont jst passed a State Law regarding fire arms.  Those who do not carry will be fined $500 for not being able to defend themslves.  Their crime rate has gone down!

Thank you Dave for expressing my feelings so well.  Every point you make I agree with.  These are long overdue.  My fear that with the Demos in charge we have a uphill battle.  And there is that thing called executive order.
