The Journal News is a local newspaper in Upstate New York. It is owned by Gannett, the same media corporation that owns and operates Florida Today, our local birdcage carpet. On Christmas Eve, the Journal News published a map and a list showing the names and addresses of nearly 44,000 people in their 3-county service area who are licensed to own a handgun. (In New York, this is a license to simply own a handgun per the 2nd Amendment, not to carry one.) The newspaper decided to invade the privacy of these families and to put them at significant risk, for NO public good. It is simply an unabashed action to intimidate and shame these law-abiding citizens into giving up their right to own a handgun. I am disgusted by this shameful act by a corporation that I enrich every day by subscribing to Florida Today. That is, until today. We will not continue to reward such an abuser of the citizens as Gannett. We are canceling our subscription to Florida Today.
While we are at it, we will place well-deserved shame on Avaaz, a global, one-world, far-left NGO supported heavily by George Soros, MoveOn and SEIU. Avaaz has announced that they are waging a campaign to target Wyndham and Best Western hotel chains. What horrible thing have these lodging chains done? Well, they have the temerity to offer discounts to NRA members. Avaaz believes giving a break to gun owners is a sin. This is good enough for us. We will, whenever we can, stay at Wyndham, Days Inn, Super 8, Ramada, Wingate, and Best Western hotels. To misquote an old saying, any enemy of Avaaz is a friend of mine.
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and keep your powder dry.

Comment by David Folsom on December 26, 2012 at 6:50pm I suggest that if indeed the pen is mightier than the sword, we should publish the names and addresses of ALL Gannet employees. After all, Americans deserve to know if their neighbors are dangerous people.
